Paseo is a free, open-source, self-hosted orchestration layer that runs coding agents as local processes on your own machines and drives them from desktop, web, mobile, and CLI clients over one daemon.
Paseo’s differentiator is not parallelism, which is now table stakes, but reach: it is the only orchestrator in its class with native iOS and Android clients at full feature parity, wrapped around your existing agent subscriptions instead of replacing them.
What it is #
A TypeScript daemon (@getpaseo/cli or Docker) manages agent processes, worktrees, schedules, and an E2E-encrypted relay for remote access; native iOS and Android apps, an Electron desktop app, a web PWA, and a CLI all connect to the same daemon.
It wraps each provider’s own CLI rather than reimplementing it, so your subscriptions, configs, and MCP servers keep working.
Four native integrations (Claude Code, Codex, OpenCode, Pi) plus an in-app ACP catalog of roughly 36 more agents, including Cursor CLI, Gemini CLI, Goose, and Factory Droid.
No telemetry, no forced login, agents run locally; a Hub layer for GitHub, Slack, and Discord triggers and team access is self-hostable today.
Apache-2.0 (with a custom copyright notice), by Mohamed Boudra, an independent solo maintainer, with development supported by GitHub Sponsors.
Status #
Young and fast: about 19.3k stars, 2.3k forks, and 997 open issues and PRs as of 2026-10-03, created 2025-10-13, with more than 5,300 commits on main. The v0.10 line went stable on 2026-09-28 with v0.10.0 and v0.10.1 shipping the same day, v0.10.2 (OpenCode v2 header-timeout, context-meter, and question-card fixes) followed on 2026-09-30, and v0.10.3 (October 2) added a confirmation before a pairing link connects to a new or changed host, a supply-chain-style hardening for the relay, while the v0.11.0 beta line continued on October 1-2 (beta.3 up by October 2, Usage window row pinning), after v0.9.2 (2026-09-24), v0.9.0 going stable with v0.9.1 the same day (September 22), the v0.9.0 betas of September 17-18, and v0.8.0 (2026-09-10, plugin header buttons, custom providers, and richer chat components), alongside 165 contributors and an active subreddit and Discord. The structural risk is on the label: the maintainer described himself on Hacker News as a team of one, and monetization has now arrived as the hosted Hub at $15 per seat per month.
Strengths #
- Genuine cross-device supervision: phone steering of desktop agents over an encrypted relay, which no peer in the category ships.
- Broadest agent support in its class with minimal lock-in, because it wraps provider CLIs instead of replacing them.
- Privacy and self-host approach: local processes, optional encrypted relay, Docker for servers and NAS.
- More than a UI: CLI parity, a TypeScript SDK, an MCP server, schedules, and plugins.
Cautions #
- Pre-1.0 with fast churn; the tracker crossed 1,200 open issues and PRs by 2026-09-07 before a cleanup wave closed roughly 400 of them in a day, down to 816 by 2026-09-08, 653 as of 2026-09-10, 724 as of 2026-09-12, 821 as of 2026-09-16, 854 as of 2026-09-18, 848 as of 2026-09-20, 901 as of 2026-09-24, 908 as of 2026-09-26, and 977 as of 2026-10-02, and demand still outruns a tiny team.
- Subscription-billing friction: the maintainer confirmed Claude subscription usage through Paseo draws from a different, smaller credit pool than interactive use.
- Solo-maintainer bus factor with a business model still pending.
- Hacker News commenters noted it converges with Conductor, cmux, and Devin-style tools unless mobile-first steering is your actual need.
Pricing #
Free and open source under Apache-2.0; you bring your own agent CLIs, subscriptions, and API keys. The hosted Hub (managed GitHub, Slack, and Discord triggers) now publishes a Free tier at $0 per month for 50 agent runs and one seat, with Pro at $15 per seat per month for unlimited runs and seats, where late August still had registration closed and late September still led with a free trial; self-hosting Hub remains free.
Price history #
| Date | Plan | Change | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2026-08 | Hub | Late August: hosted Hub registration closed, no pricing; core free (Apache-2.0). | |
| 2026-09 | Hub | Hub generally available at €15/seat/mo with a free trial; self-hosting Hub free. | |
| 2026-09-29 | Hub | Price display moved from €15 to $15 per seat per month, the price level unchanged. | |
| 2026-10-02 | Hub (hosted) | A Free tier appeared: $0 per month for 50 agent runs and 1 seat, Pro unchanged at $15 per seat per month; the free-trial offer no longer appears on the page. |
Compared to #
- Conductor: polished, closed, macOS-only with cloud workspaces and commercial tiers; choose Conductor for hosted polish, Paseo for open source, Windows and Linux, and phones.
- Vibe Kanban: kanban-board fan-out for batch delegation, community-maintained since its vendor shut down; choose it for board thinking, Paseo for interactive conversation-steered sessions from anywhere.
- Emdash: a desktop-first parallel workbench from a YC team; choose Emdash for a VC-backed desktop IDE feel, Paseo when the phone and multi-machine daemons are the point.
Bottom line #
Recommended for engineers whose agents run unattended while they are away from the desk, and who want self-hosted open source over a vendor’s app. Not for teams needing a vendor’s support contract, or Mac-only shops happy paying Conductor for polish.
